How to Remember things Easily

I was making this post and suddenly wanted to get something from another room. After I finished my two-second climb up stairs, I had totally forgotten what I needed to get and froze after it hits me that I was playing with my kitty.

Memory loss is natural when you are aging. But, believe it or not, it starts before the grey hair and wrinkles. Probably in your teen years or twenties.

At the meantime, nothing to worry. Because there are lots of techniques that will help keep your memory sharp.

  • The Art of Memorizing

We in take an overwhelming amount of information each day. Yet, our brain filters out most of it. The 'Forget-me-not' things are packed in our short term memory. But, they often gets pushed out to make space for new information coming in.

Keep a full stop to this and let's see how your brain likes to memorize.

    • TYPE
Your brain is much better memorizing things that are catchy, up-to-point, and visual.
Eg:- X-men VS "Men with Extra Ordinary Powers"

Change the bulky passages into a more visual and a unique way so that your brain will digest it much quickly.

    • PATTERN
Your brain likes it when things are in correct order which is easier for it to recognize.
Eg:- The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
             VS
Fox the lazy quick brown the dog over jumps.

Make easily understandable orders which makes it easier to recognize by your brain.

    • SIZE
You are way faster at remembering stuff in small chunks.
      Eg:- (033) - 864-567-8   VS   0338645678

Break those bulky pieces into smaller chunks and memorize them.

  • Improve your Brain
    • Take your Beauty sleep

Sleep makes memory stronger. During sleep the brain sort out the information worth remembering and strengthens new memories. All-nighters, please take this into consideration that no matter how hard you study overnight, it might seem idiotic if you skip your beauty sleep. Regardless of age, one must have their seven to nine hours of sleep. If it seems impossible, a one hour nap can also help improve your brain cells.

    • Boost your body

Here's another reason to put your running shoes if you were going out of reasons. Exercise can improve memory. It's okay even if your exercise is for 30 minutes. Researches have found that exercise boosts the size of the hippo-campus (the part of the brain that process new information)

    • Work your mind

Change your old, boring life style and try something new everyday. Take a new route to your workplace or college, rather than taking the same ole route you are going since childhood.
When hiking or setting a camp rather than using GPS, try using Topographic Maps (Check out How to Read Maps for further directions).
If you are stressed out after finishing a big pile of work, a good old-fashioned cup of coffee would be just what you need to boost your memory up.

  • Study. The Smarter way.

    • Study whenever possible

Keep in touch with you studies. Always make it a habit to review what you've learned before bed and right after waking up. This will boost retention.

    • Try 'Spaced Repetition'

This is one vital memory technique that everyone should know. Break information into smaller units and review them continuously over a period of time. This technology will be helpful in order to get a A pass for your exam, even.

  • Memorizing Random Things

    • Using a story

If you are up to go to your greengrocer, instead of making a list, try making a story including the stuff in the list. Start with the word apple and try making a tale while going to the grocery store.

    •  Things-to-do Diary

Maintain a small diary including things you would forget easily. Even if you don't think so, better write them because, why take risks?

    • Habit it

Make habits like leaving door keys in the same place everyday. Make it a habit to look at your 'To-do' diary every day. And also run a check-list before going out the house (Wallet? Check! Phone? Check! Car keys? Check!)

Make them habits so, you won't miss a single thing in any possible way

How to Structure a Speech

The topics, the quality of research, the tone of voice, content, delivery, power, humor and passion of any speech vary greatly from speaker to speaker. But, the structure of any speech should be similar. Every speech needs a structure of five core elements.

You'll learn how to write a neatly structured speech, after reading this post

  • Goal

This is the step that everybody is most resistant to. Yet, this is the most tool they can use. Your goal is never stated in the speech but is a guideline to organize a clear and a meaningful message.

A Goal frames your speech. An effective goal:
    • Should be specific
    • Should be in one sentence
    • Should have only one idea

  • Power Statement

The Power Statement is the most important sentence in your speech as it previews what you're going to say. It's better if you cna vocally outline what you're going to say. It helps the audience to manage the verbal message.Just establish the major headings of your speech, so the audience is aware of what is coming.

  • Main Points

Main Points make up the content of your speech. Now, that your power statement is already told, make sure your main points go along with the power statement. And, flow with the correct order. Because, the audience now have expectations of what you will say.

  • Introduction

Being deceived by the literal meaning of 'Introduction' people often believes that constructing the 'Introduction' is the first step to planning a speech. But, thinking of an introduction without a message is a GRAVE mistake! Your introduction has the power to grab the audience's attention.

    An Introduction can be,
    • A short story
    • An appropriate example
    • A shocking statistic
    • A fact
    • An appropriate quotation
    • A joke or a song

    However, every introduction should:
      • Grab the audience's attention
      • Include a tone (Humor/ Serious/ Urgent)
      • Be believable
      • Be a guide to the content (Your Power Statement should be the last sentence of your introduction)

  •   Conclusion

Your conclusion must be satisfying and obvious. The audience should know when the speech is ending and when to applaud. The conclusion should be brief and should have the end linked to your introduction.

    And That's what Professionals do.

How to be a Good Public Speaker

When you're about to deliver a speech and suddenly your inner voice questions you...

"Will I make it?"
And that is what is called "Nervousness". It's natural and even beneficial. Meanwhile, too much nervousness can be unfavorable.

Allow me to pre-occupy you with some proven tips on how to keep your butterflies in control.
  • Understand your material

Choose a topic you're interested in. Research and add more to your knowledge than to your speech ( in case someone questions you.) Use humor to entertain your audience. Add some of your personal stories. Use a conversational language - so you won't easily go off the topic.
  • Repetition. Repetition. Repetition!

Practice makes you perfect. Rehearse yourself with a loud voice and revise as necessary. Practice with a timer and keep some extra time for the unexpected occurrences.

Record your speech delivery and replay it for yourself to spot your weaknesses. After identifying, cut them into zero, and repeat the procedure.
  • Be familiar with the room
"Better 3 hours too soon than one minute too late"
So arrive early and walk around the speaking area and make yourself familiar with the surrounding. And rehearse using the microphone or any other visual aids.
  • Know your audience

Greet and talk with some of the audience members as they arrive. The best way to engage your audience is to focus specifically on their needs. This will help you with your speech. Connecting with your audience in advance will lower your nervousness because it is easier to speak to a group of friends than to strangers.
  • Visualize your Success

Before you're summoned on stage, imagine yourself delivering the speech, your voice up and the continuously applauding audience. This will boost up your confidence.
  • Relax

Once you're on the stage, begin by addressing the audience. It'll buy you enough time to calm your nerves, and loose the nervousness. Then pause. Take a deep breath. Put on a smile. Count to three. And Begin. (Transform nervous energy into enthusiasm.)

  • Remember that people want you to be a star

Know that your audience want you to be interesting, informative and also entertaining. So, why don't satisfy their desires?

When you're giving the speech keep your eye-contact with the familiar faces so it will distract your butterflies.

And don't apologize for any problem. It may be your nervousness or something else. Tell you what, the audience would probably never notice it. So why throw yourself into the pit?

Realize that, Good public speaking is more than using proper grammar and coherent sentences. Your audience is rooting for you. So just make them happy.

  • Gain experience
"The most valuable source of knowledge is 'experience'."
Your speech represents 'you'. Make sure you painted your self-portrait perfectly. Experience builds confidence, which is the key to effective speaking.

So, if you can just put what you learned into practice, You will become a much better speaker!

How to avoid Internet Addiction

  • Know that you're addicted

Well, too much internet time is considered to be, Internet addiction. Knowing stuff makes you powerful. Likewise, you should first know whether or not you're an internet junkie. Chances to use internet are, when you do a research on whatnot, creating ideas to your individual project, watching some videos on youtube regarding your chemistry lesson, or whatsoever. Thinking of those tasks, you open your web browser and if your first tab is "Facebook", "Google plus", "Yahoo" or some other not essential websites, you know what your addiction is.
  • You're not the only person with this issue

Knowing your weakness is better than neglecting it anyway. Once you notice your addiction, don't be embarrassed because, you are not the only one with this matter. More and more people are getting addicted to internet, it's just unstoppable.

  • Create a Plan to prevent internet addiction

Plan your week. Allocate time to reach your goals. Study your subjects and don't forget to reward yourself. Only after you're finished with your work, you will surf the internet, eat and watch TV. Likewise, control your thoughts and you'll be controlling your mind, the most powerful source in universe. Make worth use of it.There's a saying,
    "I don't stop when I'm tired
    I stop when I'm done"
Once you get home after school, complete your homework and study today's work. And your bonus reward; you will feel better knowing you've finished your homework early. If can, read books or research at the library instead of browsing internet for information.

  • Get a hobby which take you out of internet

Join a sports club (swimming, badminton, cricket or any other sport you prefer). If you are a reader, join a public library. If you have music running inside your veins, learn to play an instrument (piano, guitar, violin). If you love gardening, turn your garden into a butterfly paradise. If you love photography, travel various places ad enjoy yourself. If you prefer drawing, start to learn new drawing tricks and draw, draw, and draw. Practice makes you perfect. If you are a stamp collector or a coin collector, join a community of your kind and raise you stamp or coin collection way up.

Just involve in something better and natural. Because, when we have a habit, we can't miss it. Avoid even thinking of wasting time surfing internet. Don't lie to yourself.
  • Hang out with friends

During your spare time, don't forget to go to big screen with your best buddies to enjoy a movie. And plan field trips if you prefer traveling. The point I'm making is, enjoy your life with your best friends around you.

Without making instant messages, be used to make calls to your friends. You can even tell your best buddy of your internet addiction problem and he/she'll probably help you out with it.
  • Limit social networking

This is so very important. Internet junkies often spend a lot of time in social network sites, chatting with people and even making inappropriate relationships. That's completely lunacy. Don't ever replace real relationships with virtual.

That doesn't mean that, Social Networking is bad or unworthy. It is up to you to make correct use of it. Limit your time in Facebook, twitter, MySpace, Google plus and other websites.
"Don't be a slave of technology.
    Instead,

    Make technology your slave "

    WARNINGS!

    1. Don't eat meals in front of your computer.
    2. Limit your internet time. Use an alarm clock or a timer.
    3. Don't lie to yourself. It is a big mistake.
    4. Always, try to calm down and control your mind to do, what you really want to do.
